Letter from the President

Hi everyone,

Good News!! The Chippewa Valley LGBTQ+ Community Center will be re-opening its doors on June 8th! This does, however, come with strict guidelines and  recommendations as we seek the guidance from the CDC, state and local health departments, and medical professionals regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. You can view the guidelines here. If you are participating in any support group or informal hangout sponsored by the center, please reach out to your facilitator for what their next steps will be for in-person meetings. Please check our site for updated hours this week.

Furthermore, we want to raise awareness of the racist murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, MN over this past week. We are only a 90-minute drive from the bustling city that is currently experiencing uprising and demands for freedom of black and brown people who have been suppressed, beaten, and murdered for hundreds of years in America. Below is the press release we have shared publicly:

“We are deeply saddened and outraged by the brutal killing of George Floyd, an unarmed Black man, at the hands of the Minneapolis Police. We stand in solidarity with those who seek justice for his murder.

As long as people of color live in fear of police violence, equality and justice are not possible. And as long as people of color are made unwelcome or unsafe, we cannot have truly public spaces.

The CVLGBTQ+ Community Center is committed to having public spaces that are safe, healing and accessible to all. As a organization focused on LGBTQ equality, it’s important to reach beyond our comfort zone of traditional issues and constituencies. To listen, learn and stand with our allies in this crisis.

Our thoughts are with George Floyd’s family and the community. And we urge our supporters to demand accountability for his needless death”

Please, remember, the first pride was a riot. Stonewall was led by black and brown transgender women. The rights you hold so dear would not exist without them. Stand in solidarity.

Thanks,

Breana
